Safety & Missing Persons

Exploring how technology can help Indigenous communities prevent, communicate, coordinate, and respond when someone goes missing.

Hawk is working with Indigenous communities and the Province of British Columbia to explore new ways technology can support people and communities before, during, and after a missing-person situation.

More than an alert.

When someone goes missing, there isn't one situation—and there isn't one response.
The work we're exploring goes beyond sending an alert.

PREVENT

Explore ways technology can support safer choices and communication before something happens.

COMMUNICATE

Help people share information quickly and, where appropriate, discreetly.

COORDINATE

Support families, communities, and others involved in a response.

SUPPORT

Recognize that responding to a missing person is about people—not just information.

PROTECT

Build privacy, safety, and choice into the experience.

Built with Indigenous communities

The Missing Indigenous Persons Pilot Advisory Group brings together individuals with passion, knowledge, and lived experience from Cowichan Tribes, K’ómoks, Leq’á:mel, Nak’azdli Whut’en, Tsimshian, and Wet'suwet'en. Participants share their perspectives and insights to help shape the development of the safety and alert tool being built on the Hawk App platform. Hawk is also working alongside the Province of British Columbia, through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General (PSSG), as it brings together Indigenous organizations, advocates, families, police, and others with experience in missing-person prevention and response.

Together, these conversations are helping inform the work and shaping what comes next.

The work is evolving.

We're listening, testing, learning, and refining.

The goal isn't simply to build a better alert.

It's to explore how technology can help people stay safer, communicate safely, and get the right support when they need it.
